Spread across 120 square kilometres, the Town of Kwinana is a rapidly expanding shire comprised of 15 suburbs. The suburb of Orelia is adjacent to the Kwinana town centre and it is not just this central location that is attracting home buyers.

The name “Orelia” is derived from the ship “Orelia” that transported settlers to Fremantle to join the newly established Swan River Colony. The suburb of Orelia is one of the more established within the Town of Kwinana with its establishment dating back to 1952.

In terms of public open spaces, Orelia has plenty to choose from ranging from large ovals to small parks. The most notable is Orelia Oval that is home to many local sporting clubs and has clubhouses contained within it. Another popular destination is Sandringham Park which offers a variety of playgrounds as well as benches and outdoor BBQ.

Currently, Orelia offers a small but rather run-down shopping centre. This is all about to change with the Town of Kwinana passing a scheme amendment which marks the first step in a proposed redevelopment for this local shopping precinct. It is anticipated that the existing site will be demolished to make way for a redeveloped centre that will offer locals a mixture of both new shops and housing. It is hoped that the mixture of new outlets will complement the Kwinana town centre which is only a short distance from this centre.

The investment by both the local council and private developers in this suburb is sure to have a positive effect on the value of properties. One of the attractions of Orelia is the mixture of housing that it offers. As well as land and new homes being available in the suburb, there are also older, more established homes that offer lots of charm and character. There is also some higher density homes in the form of both small complexes of units and multi-level apartments. All of these offer the home buyer lots of choice in terms of both dwelling style and price.
