The Town of Kwinana has just reached a fantastic milestone. With the population now reaching the required number of residents, the Town is now eligible to start the process of conversion from a town to a city.

The Town of Kwinana came in to being in the 1950’s and now over 60 years later it has grown to a community of over 30,000 residents spread across 120 square kilometres. Kwinana has been acknowledged as the fourth fastest growing area in all of Western Australia (by percentage). This rapid growth is a reflection of the growing number of people that are choosing to move to Kwinana. In fact, every 12 hours a new family moves in to the Town.

In the latest edition of the Kwinana Community Newsletter, Mayor Carol Adams has said that ‘our move to City status will further cement Kwinana as a modern metropolitan destination and demonstrate our ability to remain self-sufficient for years to come’. Her comments sum up the excitement that this shift in status will bring to the whole community.

The process of moving the Town of Kwinana is thought to take up to 3 years and will involve collaboration with local residents and experts. The Council will be providing regular updates as well as opportunities to share your thoughts. Be sure to read your local newsletter from the council or check their website to keep abreast of the changes and updates as they unfold.
